The 1966 boys' cross country team was the only George mason team to win the Wakefield Invitational. They also won the District and State Championships while going undefeated and in the Washington Post Final Standings were ranked tenth in the Metropolitan Area. They were the second George Mason cross country team to win a state title. Several key runners returned in 1967 to become the first to defend their state championship.
