John Tasker was selected to the Virginia All-State basketball, football, and baseball teams his senior year and was the first GM athlete to be named as All-Metropolitan in any sport (football). He was the 1st in a series of outstanding running backs to excel on the gridiron at GM. John was a starting member of the 1954-55 GM basketball team that was runner-up in the Virginia State Tournament. After graduation, John played minor league baseball for the Detroit Tigers and later was selected to the "All-World" fast-pitch softball team in 1966 when playing for the Clearwater Florida Bombers. He won the Washington, D.C. AAU heavyweight boxing championship.
